Kickstart

From October we are working in partnership with Cavell Primary School to deliver the KICKSTART Programme which has been funded by by the Ellerdale Trust and the Anguish Educational Foundation.

We have a team of 5 volunteers all of whom bring much experience of working with children.

Anne has taught primary school aged children for 23 years.

Doreen has worked in the community for 20 years, as well as sitting as a magistrate in the family courts, and serving on the probation committee and the board of the YMCA.

Duane has run children’s and youth clubs in the community and is one of the pastors at New Hope Christian Centre.

Matthew and Felicity are looking to make a lifestyle change leaving their jobs in business to train for a career in teaching.

We are working with 22 children over 7 weeks. The course is based around social skills and teaches the children about adopting a positive attitude, how to make friends and keep them, and how to communicate with words rather than fists.

The final session is a prize giving to which the children invite teachers, family and friends, attended by up to 50 people. They host the session providing refreshments, and each student gives a two minute talk on what the course has meant to them. For many it is the first time they have been rewarded for achievement in the public arena.

We have great fun with the children and take them on a journey giving them keys which hopefully will enable them to make better choices, dare to believe life can be different, and to have hope for the future.
