Summer Barbeque and AGM

Community Action Norwich held its Annual General Meeting BBQ2on 1 September 2011.  Doreen Betts reviewed the last year.

The student placement from the UEA this year was a young man from Eritrea, Alen Gebremedhin.  We had a fantastic time with him and he carried out indepth community research on the value of and need for our programmes.  This was used as the foundation for our Reaching Communities Lottery bid.

The work with older people has been going well due mostly to the great work done by Georgina Dalton.  The programmes are not running at capacity and the aim for next year is to achieve 30 clients at the Day Centre on both Tuesdays and Thursdays.  We have had  fantastic student placements from City College and look forward to continuing this partnership.

The children's club continues to be popular and we are very pleased with the good relationships being built with parents.  One of our goals for next year is to find a youth worker who can continue the work we have begun with the youth in the community working in partnership with other local churches.

The TRUST programme is our fastest growing programme which grew last year to 26 students.  We held a successful summer programme as mentioned in a separate report.

STEP has had a successful year and are developing the STAR programme which is a self development tool setting personal goals enabling many of their clients to find a route out of the lifestyle in which they have become trapped.  They are also developing a social enterprise scheme around card making and quilting.

Ann Hobday has given us another year of hard work and commitment with the allotment programme.  This is her last year of working with us before she retires and unless another supervisor can be found we will have to close down this project.

The trustees would also like to thank Clive Drake who presented the accounts and took questions on behalf of the trustees.  His hard work over the past year is greatly appreciated and a full set of accounts is available to anyone who would wish to examine them.
