Yellow team win GOLD at Lakenham Olympics
This year we took a chance and did the Holiday club differently. The children were complaining that everything stops over the summer and why did the club have to shut over the summer as well? Taking this to heart we decided to run the holiday club over the six weeks of the summer holidays on our regular Thursday night slot extending the time by an hour. I had an excellent response from helpers and have worked with the best team in years for my holiday club. We have been particularly blessed by having a large number of teachers on board as well as Duane, Pete and Paul. (It makes a difference to have men on the team around these kids.) We also have had three volunteers from other churches who have been a blessing, a young woman called Alison from Norwich Central Baptist Church, Ollie from Holy Trinity, and Pam from St. David's, Thorpe end. It has been a powerful team and lots of fun to work with every one. The children had a lot of fun, in a safe environment with many activities. Our theme was the “Olympics” and the children were placed in five teams according to the colours of the Olympic rings. The craft activities, drama, and games all related to the “Olympic” focus. The children gained points for enthusiasm, obeying instructions, working hard and kindness. Many congratulations to the yellow team who were the over-all winners The final evening was the big water fight and Bar-B-Q. Many parents were present to see prizes given and the yellow team receive their Olympic Gold medals. We have had good numbers each week averaging about 45 children. The material has been traditional Sunday School style and the children have taken to it and joined in with great enthusiasm. Singing the chicken dance, learning memory verses, listening to bible stories and taking away the fact that Jesus loves them. One of the highlights for me has been watching the children listen to the bible story so quietly taking in every word. Praise God that His word cannot return to him void. Please pray as a team of us are going to resurrect what was the breakfast club but have it on a Tuesday after school. I believe that God is doing something in this area, whether it is children, elderly, the parents who ever! God is placing his hand on this community and we have to take up this opportunity with the children as well. We will continue to have the Thursday night club where they come down and play but Tuesday will be Sunday School based in order to carry on the work we have begun over the summer. We are asking God to see lives unmistakably transformed for these kids. Not just entertainment for the children but to see them soundly saved, baptised, and moving on into all that God has for them.
